St. Louis Cardinals Clinch Playoff Spot
It is yet another successful regular season for the St. Louis Cardinals as they clinched a playoff berth today when the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Francisco Giants 6-0. The Cardinals could have sealed their berth earlier in the day, but they dropped a close game to another National League powerhouse, the Chicago Cubs. With the best record in the major leagues, the Cardinals stand at a astonishing 92 wins and 56 losses. The Cardinals have always been a winning franchise, and they continue to make the fans in St. Louis happy. The Cardinals have an opportunity to be the first team since the Atlanta Braves (1995-1999) to advance to the National League Championship Series in five straight years, and also secure a third straight National League Division title. It would be their ninth such crown since 2000, which is stellar. Manager Mike Matheny said: "I think its real important to acknowledge the fact that you're one of the teams that is fortunate enough to play even one more game in the end...There are some guys in there that have never been able to celebrate anything, and we have been pushing since February for the chance to play beyond the regular season." Matheny and the Cardinals know winning is not an easy task, which is why they take the approach to never settle, and to always strive for greatness.
